Diploma in Mass Communication and Media

Course Duration: 4 Terms

Credits: 24 contact hours per unit and an average of 7 units per term

This programme examines the principles, practice and responsibility of communication, and the convergence of print, broadcast and online journalism. In the era of New Media, the Journalism Course combines knowledge creation and extension, craft and context, with practical applications in a study programme of proven excellence. Students emerge from the course enabled for multiple tasks and skills in mass communication and social development. Students develop skills in, and understanding of, news-writing and reporting; broadcast journalism; advertising; public relations; camera operations; and sound and video editing.

Programme Goals:

 

  1. Empower students to apply appropriate communication and media skills for quality production across different settings and audiences,
  2. To produce new generation of media scholars and professors.
  3. Equip learners to demonstrate knowledge of communication theory and application of learned skills in diverse media environments,
  4. Train students to think critically to develop innovative and relevant perspectives related to the industry
  5. Train students with the necessary skills to incorporate technology to communicate effectively in various settings and contexts.
